5 Sections: Novice K-2, Novice 3-4, Novice 5-6, Novice 7-8, Advanced

  • Non-rated by USCF, no entry fee
  • Swiss pairing
  • 5 rounds, non-elimination
  • A five-minute or 10-minute (per side) clock may be deployed at TD discretion

Additional information for Advanced section: 

  • Game/20 + 5 second increment in Advanced section when clocks are available
  • Notation required in the Advanced section

Results of this event are not rated by US Chess but the tournament generally follows USCF rules.

Eligibility: Through Grade 8 (or equivalent home-schooled)

Registration: YCFC uses a roster system for tournament entries. As in previous years, all that is required is name, school, grade and section (novice or advanced).

The roster should consist of any and all players that might possibly play in YCFC tournaments this school year. New player names can be added at any time but it is preferred that this occur BEFORE the day of the tournament.

On the day of the event, check-in on-site by team name and player at host location by 9:30am.


8:30 – 9:30 AM – Sign-in
10:00 AM – 3:15 PM – Tournament
3:30 PM (estimated) – Trophy Presentation


Individual trophies to the top 7 in all Novice sections and to the top 6 in the Advanced section. Team trophies to the top two teams in all sections. Team score calculated by top four scores in Novice sections, top three scores in Advanced.

A blitz playoff may be utilized to determine trophy allocation for perfect scorers. Otherwise, standard USCF tiebreaks are used.

Food available on site -- proceeds benefit the host chess club.
