On August 20, 2016, the Glenwood Chess Club hosted Chess Wars XV. Richard Zhang, the eventual Open Winner “whupped” the organizer in the first round to win the Bounty Hunter Prize of the day!

In the U1650 division, Joseph “the Great” Hooks took 1st place with Richard Lewis and the tournament organizer taking 2nd and 3rd place respectively.

In the U1250 Section, Philadelphia visitor Sean Pry took 1st place, followed by James Marchert Sr. (2nd) and Margery Allen (3rd).

Mr. Pry also received the award for the farthest distance traveled as well.

As previously mentioned, in the Open Division, Richard Zhang took first,  Sam Henderson followed in second place, and David Yong finished in third place.

Sadly, Richard Zhang left without taking his trophy as did David Yong. Nevertheless, we will hold them until their next tournament visit!

With Richard's absence, Sam Henderson was seated into the Grand Championship Playoffs, so Sam, Joseph and Sean competed for the day’s top prize.

In the initial round, Hooks drew the bye and Henderson defeated Pry in a 5-minute blitz game, with the Pennsylvanian earning the 2nd Runner-up ribbon.

Then Henderson and Hooks slugged it out for top honors in a 15-minute Quick Chess contest. When the match concluded, it was Henderson who was the Grand Champion of Chess Wars XV.

Several players expressed their appreciation of the Grand Championship theme -- and free lunch and refreshments -- making for an enjoyable tournament.
