Players at the Chicago Amateur Chess TournamentOrange you glad it's October? For those not a fan of the color, you may want to avoid the vegatable aisle and looking at trees for the next month and focus on chess. Speaking of which, here's a roundup of what's been going on in Illinois.

September 3-5: Illinois Open Tournament in Oakbrook, IL has 144 players and three sections. The Open Section has a tie with Mesgen Amanov, Angelo Young, and Aung Thant Zin all finishing with 5 points out of six rounds. In Section 2, Akshay Indusekar manages just one draw and finishes at the top of the section with 5.5 points. In the G/25 section, Santiago Mata finishes with 4 points in the five round tournament. September 3: Labor Day Scholastic Tournament in Oakbrook, IL draws 53 players to this two section event. Crosstables.

September 10: The Saint Matthew 2011 Tournament in Hawthorne Woods drew 56 players in this three section event. Ram Potham gets a huge boost to provisional rating (395 --> 734) by winning all five games in the Prim section. The Elem section has an Alabama player (Logan Mercer) scoring 5.0 with two Illinois players (Alan Hentrich and Marissa Li) tying for second with 4.0. The highest rated players in the six round MHA section don't run away with the section and there is a four way tie between Leodegario Miguel, Roquito Bruno, Sherwin Chan, and Michael Wu. September 10: Evanston Swiss Groups draws 31 players for this four section tournament. No clear winners emerge from the three rounds. In the gold section: Jon Burgess and Christopher Girardo tie for first with 3 wins each. In the silver section, four players tie for first with 2 points (Abdulah Prijic, Edward Bustamante, Rahul Dhiman, and Ricky Wang). The bronze section had both Douglas Selph and Aman Grover winning all three of their games. Crosstable.

September 16-18: 7th North America Ameteur Open took place in Skokie, IL with 11 players and Steven Szpisjak finishing with 4.0 points in this five round tournament. Crosstable.

September 18: 69th Knights Quest in Northbrook, IL has 80 players show up for this 4 section, 4 round event. In three of the sections, there was a clear 4-0 winner: Aung Zin (Open), Eric Gan (U1400), and Arartik Marwah (U1000). In the U600 section, two people, Kelebrant Hays and Ellison Grace Van Scoy, finished 4-0. Crosstable.

September 24: Chicago Amateur Tournament in Chicago has 28 players and two sections. See article for more information or crosstablefor results.

September 24: A large turnout for the 44th Kumbaya Tournament. 63 players traveled to Skokie, IL for this four section event. Yaheen Jaridi plays up into the +1400 section and ties with WI expert Awonder Liang with both finishing with 2.5 points. Michael Geohas goes undefeated in the U1400 section. Billy Hoseman and Kenneth Kotowsky draw against each other and tie for 3.5 points in the U1000 section, and Aaron Brown has 4 wins to finish first in the U600. Crosstable.

September 24: 2011 Outreach Tournament had 4 people showing up in Springfield for this G/10 tournament. Crosstables.

September 25: NSCC G/45 tournament in Skokie, IL has 12 players. Bill Smythe, SE Henderson Jr., and Ryan Toepfer all finish with 3 points in this four round tournament. Crosstable.
