"Old Timer" Perfect at Glenwood Chess Wars VII

Print
On November 7,  17 chess warriors converged at the Blakey Center in Glenwood to do battle. When the dust had cleared, “Old Timer” George David -- who had apparently been MIA in tournaments for quite some time -- was completely re-energized as he pummeled everyone in his path to take the undisputed first place with a perfect 4-0 score.
Second and third place prizes were shared by Charles Coffman and Sam Henderson with 3-0 scores. The fourth place trophy went to Doug Middleton with a 2.5 score and better tiebreaks.
Jon Winnick, Danny Emge, and Monish Bhasin took 5th, 6th and 7th place, also based on the tiebreak system. Monish also won the upset prize trophy by defeating an opponent 80 points higher than his 1451 rating.

In reality, George David was actually the upset prize winner, but since he was a monetary prize winner”, he was ineligible to win both under tournament rules.
Rounding out the final winners were Robert Johnson, 8th (2pts), Richard Zhang, 9th (2pts) and Arin Nair 10th.

We had at least nine first-time players at our GCC tournament. We are glad that they competed and hope they will return to our events in the future.Again, everyone seemed to have enjoyed themselves and that is always a goal of the Glenwood Chess Club.
