23 Compete at St Charles May Quick Chess

St Charles Chess Club held a quick tournament on 5/12/2016 with a time control of Game/10 and a 3-second delay.

The five-round event had a great turnout with 23 players.

The tournament was won by first-time club attendee JULIO LARA, who had a nice quick-rating jump from 1689 to 1815.

Second place was nabbed by club president JEFF WIEWEL and third place went to MARIANO ACOSTA .

Many players had nice ratings increases while some of us were giving them points to them.

9-year old WILLIAM CAHILL on his first time to the club was showing us old-timers how to play this fast chess, finishing with 3.5 out of 5. His quick rating climbed from 1257 to 1365.

The whole club was watching William play long-time club member ERIC ROBERT SWANSON when the Wheaton youngster pulled off a stalemate swindle. The crowd loved it -- lots laughs and cheers and young William smiling.

Poor Eric had to shake his head as he missed his chance to beat this young rising star.

The night had many moments like that: smiles, laughs and head shaking.

Our club's next quick event is a Game/25 Quad scheduled for June 9th.
