When it rains, it pours!

Illinois once again is host to the National All-Girls this weekend with 447 pre-registered as of Thursday. The event begins April 7 and runs through April 9 at McCormick Place in Chicago. This is the 14th annual NAG tournament with six sections and a number of side events. Unofficially, Illinois appears to have 80 entrants in the event, fewer than 20% of the entries.

The Greater Peoria Open continues the Illinois Chess Tour with five rounds in two sections.

The time control in both sections is Game/90 with a 30-second increment. The event will be held April 8 and 9 at the Travelodge in East Peoria. There is a guaranteed first prize of $500 for first place in the Open with many additional prizes. In the Under 1400 Reserve section, $120 is guaranteed to the winner with additional prizes there as well.

For the first time in recent history (and perhaps ever!) Harper College is hosting a three-round rated tournament with Game/60, 30-second increment time controls. The plan is for two sections, Open and Under 1700, but the TD reserves the right to combine them. Entry is only $5 with no prize distribution other than a day of good chess!

On Sunday April 9, the Spring 2017 ChessFest will bloom in downstate Champaign, open to Champaign County elementary and middle school students. Players are divided into sections to minimize age differences -- and players compete in all rounds regardless if they lose a game or two! Prizes are going out to the top six players in Grades K-8 -- a whopping array of 54 awards! Personalized certificates will be presented to all participants. The 101st Kumbaya will also take place on Sunday featuring four rounds of Game/25 with a 5-second delay. Try to register early: onsite registration is a pricy $50!

Also on Sunday, Illinois Chess Vets will once again hold one of their weekly tournaments in Worth, IL with a lot of choices!

Both the latter events are detailed on the ICA calendar.

So if you can't  find what you're looking for this weekend, you're either really picky or we haven't done a good enough job finding organizers to develop events in your area!
