Registration Continues For '16 IL K-8 Championship

Registration continues for Illinois' largest rated scholastic event of the year.

The estimated registration for the March 12-13 K-8 championship is expected to approach 700 with around 460, 550, 580 635 received so far.

A number of side events are also available beginning Friday, March 11, including Blitz and Bughouse. A puzzle contest will take place Saturday night, March 13.

Well over 100 trophies will be awarded to individuals and a slate of team trophies will also be handed out in four sections.

In the Grades 6-8 section, top-rated registrants include Vincent Do, Siddharth Acharya, Aidan Carey and Kevin Ho.

Grades 4-5 competitors will be going up against the likes of Peter Zheng, Nicholas Ladan and David Zimmermann -- 166 are registered so far.

In the Grades 2-3 section, National champions Dimitar Mardov and Alex Zhao and two-time state champion Vrishank Ramnath will battle it out with David Yong, Eduard Danilyan, Avi Kaplan, William Cahill and at least 150 others.

2015 All-Grade and National Kindergarten champion Aren Emrikian will compete against first graders Ryan Wong and Julian Wang and over 75 other entrants in the K-1 section.
