Illinois Players Off To Missouri For Mid-America Open

The Land of Lincoln hopes to bring home some of the $20,000 in prize money up for grabs at this weekend's Mid-America Open.  The Contintinental Chess Association event is the first of six midwest-based tournaments CCA will hold in 2016.

The Mid-American features two-day (starting Saturday) and three-day (starting Friday) options beginning March 18 or March 19. The five-round tournament concludes Sunday, March 20 and is being conducted in seven sections ranging from Open to Under 1000.

Illinois registrations so far include William Aramil, Pete Karagianis, Gopal Menon, David Peng and George Li.

Four grandmasters are registered so far.

Other Illinois juniors registered include Ricky Wang, Anshul Adve, Rishi Narayanan, Hanson Hao, Shreya Mangalam, Abhy Venkat, Ishaar Ganesan, Peter Zheng along with Tom and Adam Bareket.

A blitz tournament is contemplated for Saturday, March 19.

The Clayton Plaza Hotel in St. Louis will serve as the host location.
