Harrisons Prevail at Chess Wars VI

On October 18, the Glenwood Chess Club hosted Chess Wars VI. Unfortunately, a website error relating to registration information, seemed to seriously impede on our number of entrants!

With an eight-player field, we added an adult/open section and played a four-person quad in both divisions. USCF crosstables can be found here.

In the Scholastic Section, David Harrison (8th grade) was undefeated. (3-0) Second place went to his younger brother Christopher (5th grade) who scored 2-1. Third place was earned by visiting 4th grade Indiana “New Comer”, Bill Wei. (1-2) Finally, Matthew Brison, played with “Heart and Spirit”, but regrettably, came in 4th with a 0-3 score.

In the Open Section, Eva Harrison, the mother of David and Christopher, listed above, refused to play second fiddle to her two sons. She won her division undefeated! (3-0). Sam Henderson, finished 2nd on tiebreaks with two points, edging Herbert Ferguson who placed third. Matthew Kelly was the 4th place prize winner.

Then, in a special 10-minute Grand Championship Match for a McDonalds Gift Certificate, Eva showed no mercy on her son David and won a hard-fought victory when the younger Harrison hung his queen.

Afterwards, they smiled and hugged, grabbed their loot (prizes) and left happily! All three Harrisons played very well.

Although attendance was small, everyone seemed to enjoy themselves. For more information on future activities and events, please visit: www.glenwoodchessclub.com.
