Illinois Full of Over the Board Opportunities for National Chess Day on Saturday, October 14

Wherever you are in the great state of Illinois, there are opportunities to play tournament chess in Illinois on Saturday, October 14. The day has been declared National Chess Day.

In Springfield, David Long is organizing the Springfield National Chess Day Open on behalf of the Springfield Chess Club. The four-round Swiss-paired event will feature Game/60; delay-5 time controls with a $20 entry fee and $400 in prizes based on 30 entries. Details are here.

Kankakee Chess Club is running its second-ever Open with a small cash prize fund and a $5 entry fee if reserved by Friday, October 13.... otherwise, $15 cash onsite. The event will be held at the Kankakee Public Library in the 3rd floor meeting room. Details are here, on US Chess.

Our friends in Iowa are running the Loras (College) Chess Club Open -- and a Rated Beginners Open. Five rounds, Swiss-paired, Game/30, delay-5 time control. $20 entry fee in the Open with cash prizes, $15 entry fee in the RBO with trophies for prizes. Details are here for the Dubuque, IA event.

The Burr Ridge Chess Club is lending its affiliate ID to something called the 1st Annual Pre-Halloween Tournament up in Palatine. Details here.

High school based tournaments are occuring in Normal, Summit and Joliet. Details are here.

In Chicago, Bateman School is holding a pre-CCF season invitational. This is a closed event so there is no public listing, but we hope to report on the results after the tournament. the Chicago Chess Foundation (CCF) will launch its season in November with monthly free tournaments at various Chicago Public Schools.  Check out www.ChicagolandChess.org for more information.
