IL Players Show Significant Ratings Jumps As of June

Thanks to his co-championship of the K-12 U1200 section at April's National High School Championships in Atlanta, Jeffrey Guerrero saw his rating climb from a provisional 1061 to an established 1367, a whopping 306 enhancement! Jeff played 5th Board on the Highland Park team which finished 4th in the state this year.

With a sharp showing at May's National Elementary Championships in Tennessee, Ayush Banerjee's rating climbed 276 points. Ayush earned 4.5/7 in the K-5 section.

Naperville North's Ryan Guan demonstrated he's not the only serious chess player in the family with a 6.0 showing in the same section as Jeffrey. With 357 players competing, Ryan finished in a nine-way tie for third place to up his rating 261 points.

Ryan's brother Bradley is the top-rated 18-year old registered in Illinois -- although he's off at school in Pennsylvania.

Ignace Bielobradek has raised his rating 249, helped in large part by 100-plus ratings boosts from both Chess Wars XII and Chess Wars XIII both hosted by Glenwood Chess Club in the south suburbs of Chicago.

Layla Rodriguez upped her rating over 200 points from solid performances at both the National Elementary Championships and April's National All-Girls in Chicago.

Clayton Davis' key to success this month was coming in clear second place at the Junior High Nationals in the K-9 Under 1250 section.

Ben Pacheco had five wins and a draw in seven matches at High School Nationals in the K-12 U1200 section. Sarah Grandy saw her rating climb 200 points by winning the K-12 U1200 section at Ice Harbor in May, the de facto Midwest scholastic championships.

Isha Gani had a slight ratings bump playing in the U18 section of the National All-Girls but her real boost came from playing in the March Kumbaya. All totalled, that was just shy of a 200-point ratings boost.

Saman Tabatabaee played New Trier's 5th Board this year -- and scored 6.0 out of 7, ranking in 5th place among others at that board. His rating jumped almost 200 points at the National High School Championships in an Under 1900 section. Despite the stiff competition, Saman earned 3.0/7.
