For only the second time in its seven-year history, a player has gone 21-0 in three seasons at the annual IESA competition.

In addition to receiving yet another Gold Medal for individual play, Jason Daniels lead his (Normal) Chiddix team to the eighth grade team championship, the third straight year they have won Daniel's division. Chiddix edged Rockford Marshall for the team title, 27.5 to 27.0.

Coincidentally, it was Marshall's Vincent Do who was the only other player to compile a 21-0 record from 2014-2016.

The IESA Finals has now expanded to include fifth graders -- so it remains to be seen if we'll see a 28-0 record some day!

This year's event drew record attendance of just over 500 players to the Peoria Civic Center in a two-day competition ending February 25.

Also in the 8th grade section, Dunlap Valley Middle School edged two teams to place third with 25.0 points. Willowbrook Westview Hills and Bloomington Evans tied with 24.5 -- with the Willowbrook squad generating the higher tiebreak to claim the fourth place trophy.

In 7th grade play, Daniel Wright of Lincolnshire was the runaway winner with 29.5 points (out of a possible 35). Champaign Next Generation took second with 27.0, while another 24.5 point tie saw Bloomington Evans taking third place hardware and Dunlap Middle School garnering the fourth place trophy.

Sixth grade competition saw Chiddix compile 28.5 to beat out St. Mary's of Metamora by 3.5 points. Franklin took third with 22.5 while DeKalb St. Mary's -- a first time entrant -- came from behind in the seventh round to claim the fourth place trophy with 22.0.

Heading into the final round, the DeKalb St. Mary's squad was behind two additional teams and tied with two others... but four points out of a possible five did the trick.

Daniel Wright's Fred Yuan was the lone perfect 7-for-7 in the 7th grade group.

Drawing head to head in the final round Chiddix teammates Adithya Satyamurthy and Sreeansh Vakiti took top honors in the 6th grade division.

Additional details will be posted early this week.
