Mirandu Liu has tied for first place in the U18 section of the All-Girls Nationals completed April 9 in Chicago. On tiebreaks, Miranda brought home the second place trophy. Miranda scored 5.0/6 as did her co-champion from New York.

Marissa Li won clear second place in the U16 section with her own 5.0/6 tally behind the champion from California.

81 Illinois females competed representing about 19% of the entrants, Although host Illinois entered the second-most players of any state, New York had almost twice as many entrants, over 1/3 the field.

The field size declined about 6% from the record number who entered in 2016, still attracting 423.

IMSA (Aurora) placed second as a team in the U18 competition with contributing scores from Cassie Parent, Shayna Provine and Shvetali Thatte.

Cassie finished with 3.0, as did Shreya Mangalam and Aria Hoesley, all in an eight-way tie for 15th place. Emma Wang posted a 3.5, tying for 11th in the section.

Chicago's De La Salle placed third as a team in that section.

In U16 team competition, (Chicago) Kenzie placed second with postings from Elizabeth Codamon, Izellah Ortiz and Gabby Cisneros. Earl STEM Academy placed third.

In the U14, Ashley Yan tallied 4.5 to tie for sixth place while Sarah Grandy posted a 3.5, tying for 18th.

Illinois' top U12 finishers were Alice Fan and Annika Geiersbach, both with 4.0's, tying for 14th place.

Nisha Salian was Illinois' best finisher in the U10. Her 4.5 score placed her in a tie for 8th place.

A pair of Illinois entrants in the U8 tied for 12th place as Linda Pham and Celina Wang both compiled 4.0's.

The event was once again organized by the Renaisannce Knights Chess Foundation in conjunction with the Kasparov Chess Foundation (KCF) and US Chess.

It was the 14th Annual KCF All-Girls Nationals, once again held at the Hyatt Regency McCormick Place.

Entering the final rounds of competition for the 2017 All-Girls Nationals, five Illinois girls are in the running for top honors. Approximately 80 Illinois players are believed to be in the field of well over 400 players.

In the U12 section, Natalie Wisniowski is tied for second with a 3.5/4 tally, tied with four others.

In U14 competition, Ashley Yan is one of two players with a perfect 4.0/4 score.

Among U16's, Marissa Li is 3.0/4, placing her in a five-way tie for 3rd place.

U18 competition sees Miranda Liu and Shreya Mangalam with 3.0's, both in a 4-way tie for fourth place.

It is believed that Miranda is playing up one age group and Shreya is playing up two age groups.
