Decatur, Skinner West, Ward, Irving Park CICS and Bateman were the team winners at the April 22 YCFC / CCF competition hosted by Wildwood International Baccalaureate Magnet School in Chicago. 261 competed according to organizer Mike Cardinale.

Fox Valley Chess Club's Anshul Shetty won the K-2 Novice section with a perfect 5.0 score, a half-point better than home-schooled Hili Bareket. There was a seven-way tie for third place with Kinzie's Isabella Patel-Garcia posting the the highest tiebreak.

Decatur's top four tied with Skinner North's top quartet with 12.0 apiece, winning the K-2 first place trophy on tiebreaks. Fox Valley was a half-point back in third place with 11.5.

In the Novice 3-4, Skinner West teammates Matthew Kim and Aidan Carnate were both 5-for-5 with Matthew winning a playoff to take first. An eight-way tie for third place left Lenart's Brennan Tsai with the highest tiebreak and the third place trophy.

Thanks to Matthew and Aidan, Skinner West cruised to the team championship with 16.0 points, ahead of Skinner North's 13.5 and Decatur's 13.0.

Kaushal Dhumed of Naperville and Chetan Cherukuri both posted five victories in the Novice 5-6 with Kaushal winning a blitz playoff game for the top trophy. James To of Decatur won third place honors with the highest tiebreak out of five players with 4.0.

Ward was the top team with 12.0, ahead of Hitch (11.0) and Lenart (10.5).

Chicago Virtual Charter's Joshua To was the top scorer in the Novice 7-8, edging fellow 5-for-5'er Erick Ramirez of Galistel. Bateman's Aaron Andino had the highest tiebreak of the 4.0 score group, edging out three others for third place.

Irving Park - CICS posted 12.5 in the team results, ahead of Galistel (11.5) and Budlong (11.0).

Brothers Jack and Harry Heller were both five-for-five in the Advanced Section, but Jack disappeared before a playoff game could be played. Leonard Rionaula of Bateman posted the highest tiebreak among four players with 4.0 scores who tied for third place.

Bateman with 11 entrants in the Advanced Section won the team award with 11.5 points, ahead of Keller (9.5) and Decatur (8.0).

The YCFC / CCF's 2016-2017 calendar concludes May 20 at Nobel Elementary.
