Forty-seven Illinois girls have managed to earn spots on the most recent top 100 lists compiled by US Chess, which include the results of the 2017 Illinois All Grade in Peoria last month.
Almost all of the girls in the 'Age 7 and Under' group improved their ratings over the previous month. A big shout-out to newcomer Mehak Jiandani, who is 6 years old and ranks in 86th place nationwide after only a dozen tournaments.
Kudos also to Merrill Lee, who crossed the 1000 mark with her nice performance at the 143rd Knights Quest.
New additions Anisha Oberai and Sophie Hong represent Illinois in the group of top 100 ten-year old girls. Well done!
There were not many changes in the 'Age 11, 12 and 13' groups with minor rating increases by the 12-year olds and minor rating drops by the 13-year olds over the previous month.
Shreya Mangalam, now ranking 4th in the country, still heads up the list of Illinois girls 14 years of age. Sarah Grandy, Diana Shklover and Lizzy Brahin have also been in the top 100 for several months.
Her first tournament after a long break earned high schooler Tori Elizabeth Kafer a place among the top 100 this month. Bravo!
Emma Wang's rating jumped from 1923 to 1943 making her the 6th best-rated girl her age in the U.S. In fact, all of our 17-year olds continue to stay in the top third of the list.
Happy belated birthday to Zhengxin-Cindy (16), Emma Wang (17) and Isha Gani (18) who moved up one age bracket and are still featured in the top 100 girls lists.
These lists are based on ratings achieved and processed by the third Wednesday of the prior month, in this case November 15, 2017.
