Chess educators and parents have an opportunity to shape the landscape of chess for the children of Illinois.

The ICA's Youth Committee is undergoing a reformulation and is accepting letters of interest from those willing to share their experience and wisdom.

If you are interested, please tell us briefly about yourself and any special perspectives on Illinois youth chess you are willing to share.  Also, please indicate your level of interest in a leadership role on the committee.

We anticipate that most meetings will be by conference call in the early evening.

The aim is to provide the best possible chess experience for the youth of Illinois including learning this great game and participating in over-the-board tournaments.  As internet resources expand, online competition and educational vehicles are becoming more prevalent and collective wisdom will better guide our youth.

In recent years, the Youth Committee has developed a comprehensive set of resources on our website, developed the capacity to communicate with the youth chess community through email, and helped shape a new program emerging in Chicago which may serve as a model for other programs around the state. Spreading chess to the entirety of Illinois is certainly on the agenda, but it’s time for some fresh voices and new initiatives.
