Three young entrants topped the Under 1200 upper section at the January 16 Winter Open Scholastic. The five-round event was Quick Rated for USCF purposes thanks to the Game/25, no-delay time control. 

Daniel Skeels, Julian Wang and Elias Bouzamondo all posted 4.0/5's to claim top honors.

Elias recovered from a first-round loss with four consecutive victories including a final round triumph over Skeels.

Skeels defeated Wang in the penultimate round.

Pranav Saravanakumar and Chris Harrison tied for fourth and fifth place with 3.5's.

15 competed in the section.

In the 16-entrant U700, Kai Dubauskas was 4.5/5 to win the event.

Anshul Shetty placed second at 4.0, losing only to the champion Dubauskas in the penultimate round.

Akash Jalasutram took third place with 3.5, drawing Kai in the in the second round while losing to Kai's sibling Rana in the fourth round.

Rana, Theodore Berklich, William Kulwin and Ryan Sernel tied for fourth through seventh place with 3.0's.
