A trio of perfect scores topped the results of the Junior High section of the 2016 Martin Luther King, Jr. Day event hosted by the Bloomington-Normal Area Scholastic Chess group. 309 competed in four sections on January 18, marking the 29th year of the event.

Top-rated Ishaar Ganesan, Nicholas Bruha and Mukundan Raghav all went four-for-four.

A foursome tied for fourth place with 3.5's including Jacob Davis, Abhiru Raut, Amith Hiremath and John Reutter.

78 competed in the section.

Anusha Nadkarni was a perfect five-for-five in the Elementary section (with shorter time controls). Anusha's rating jumped 103 points to 1150.

Nathan Lee and Ayush Banerjee both posted 4.5's to tie for second and third place. The pair drew head-to-head in the fourth round.

Sohum Mehta and Seth Parent were both a perfect 5.0 in the Upper Primary section. 

Harshal Joshi was a half-point back at 4.5. 106 competed in the section.

Arul Shegaonkar was perfect with five wins for five tries in the 74-player Lower Primary section. Arul's rating rose 135 points to 658.

Tying for second and third places were Michael Li and Pragyan Misra, both 4.5/5.

Pragyan's rating went up 181 points.

Others posting 100-plus rating-enhancements included Benjamin Micklich, Greyson Thome, Mack Lee, and Austin Ewert.
