Mateusz and Bennett: Co-Champions at 3rd DuPage CCC

The 3rd Annual DuPage County Chess Championship, hosted by Elite Chess, was held at Benedictine University on Sunday, December 28th.
And for the third year in a row, the event set new records for attendance. 154 players competed in the end-of-the-year tournament, with 113 playing in the rated sections and 41 playing in the unrated grade-level sections.

The field was also the strongest that the DuPage County event had ever seen, with eight players in the Championship Section boasting ratings over 2000.
Zolkos Wins Glenwood Club Summer Quick Chess League; Musikic Perfect In July $5 4-Round Swiss

For six weeks in June and July, Glenwood Chess Club made Thursdays the place to be for quick chess action.
Over 37 players participated in the event. The time controls were adjusted to include a two-second delay for more competitive endings.
The initial time was kept at Game/15. Trophies were awarded to the top three players in three sections including: Adult, Junior High and Elementary.
The Glenwood Chess Club will continue its quick chess Thursdays for a 9- or 10-week run this fall. Look for us to start sometime in late September.
Brian Harrigan Wins Glenwood Club's Spring League

Over-the-board chess competition is alive and well in Chicago's south suburbs. The Glenwood Chess Club recently completed a 10-week tournament -- and another six-week event is already underway.
The competed event ran on Thursday nights from February 6th to May 1st in a league format. Four sections played four-round Swiss competitions each night. The sections included elementary, junior high and high school aged players as well as an open section for adults. Points earned each night were accumulated and totaled for trophies on the tenth night.
Brian Harrigan, pictured here, was the champion in the adult section with 28 points, ahead of David Guidry with 24 and Theodore Whittier with 20.
Alford, Bonwell Share '14 TCCC Championship

The Bloomington-Normal Twin City Chess Club (TCCC) held their 2014 Championship May 31 - June 1. Under the coordination and kindness of Chris Morgan this event was an eight-person round robin held at the iEXCELL Education Center in Bloomington.
After reviewing previous events, this is believed to be the highest overall rating for the club championship.
Pete Karagianis came in as the odds-on favorite. He was challenged by Joe Alford, a previous two-time champion, and previous runner-ups Jon Bonwell and Surya Kopula.
The CICL's Season Concludes

The 2013-14 season of the Chicago Industrial Chess League concluded on May 10, 2014 at Fermilab. The competition by the CICL's top eight teams in its league championship tournament was fierce. By winning in the final round against top-rated Argonne Lab's Rooks, the Wombats team became the CICL's new league champion. Wombats are from the South Suburban Chess Club. Congratulations to team captain Len Weber and all of the Wombats, well done!
Fermilab's team placed in second. Tied for third were Argonne Labs Rooks, Motorola Solutions Kings, and Rogue Squadron.
