Notice about Illinois Class Championship Prizes

On Friday, December 16th, the Illinois Chess Association confirmed that prize checks from last weekend's Illinois Class Championships issued by Mikhail Korenman's IntECS, Inc., were being returned unpaid, marked "Account Closed." Mikhail Korenman is currently out of the country and will return on December 22nd.

The Illinois Chess Association is profoundly embarrassed that this happened in one of its championship events. On Friday, December 16, ICA board members voted unanimously to pay the prizewinners in full and to reimburse them for any returned item or other bank fees that they may have incurred.

TD Sevan Muradian has recreated the prizewinners' list for us, and ICA Treasurer Carl Dolson will have checks in the mail as soon as he has contact info for the prizewinners.

If you won a prize at the Illinois Class please forward your mailing address to ICA Treasurer Carl Dolson at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..

Again, please accept our sincere apologies!

Bid and Tournament Guidelines Revised

ICA has revised its Bid and Tournament Guidelines, which are available here. Most of the changes apply only to scholastic events. While the changes are numerous, we list the highlights here. The revised guidelines will be in effect for tournaments starting in April 2012.

We’ve made more explicit our recommended procedures for the nuts and bolts of running tournaments such as signage, the routine use of PA systems, adequate staffing (including volunteers), having a central location for information and questions, and clarifying whether same-day sign-in will be required (especially if a significant number of no-shows is likely).

We’ve also amended the rules on time controls, notation, and home-schooling, and clarified that cash prizes may be allowed at youth tournaments in special circumstances.
